The scent of creosote lingered in the cool air. A classic fragrance that rain brings to life in the dry Phoenix desert. Tiny drops scattered over the succulent bloom centerpieces displayed on the tables in the backyard of Kelsey’s childhood home. She watched from the speckled window of her parents room while she prepared for the biggest day of her life. The echos of laughter and excitement came from every corner of the house, reminiscent of those childhood years at home with family. A wedding day portrait of her parents in a small dotted ceramic frame sat on the shelf just above her while she donned the white gown. She held it in her hands. A reminder of the kind of love she had been looking for all this time, and the one she knew she had finally found in Doug.
The rain continued to come, but so did the joy of each guest who entered that home in anticipation for Bride and Groom. It was as if the skies knew of the hopes and the wishes that were made every one of them, because the rain slowed to a trickle with just minutes to spare. And with friends, family, and maybe just a few droplets on their shoulders, Kelsey and Doug said “I do”.
