I am convinced that running through a powdery cloud of corn starch and food coloring makes the miserable activity we call “running” a completely enjoyable experience! So excited were we to run around Tempe, AZ in hopes to create beautiful works of art on our white T-shirts and sweat bands. There was only one problem… Rain. Wait, it rains in Phoenix? You don’t say. And believe me, it came with a vengeance. Did it hinder our desire to participate? Yes. Did it stop us from doing it anyways and enjoying every minute of it?! Absolutely not! It was such a fun experience. And although we were already drenched and shivering by the time we got to the Starting line, we warmed our bodies up pretty quickly once the race began.
The color check points of the race were the best part and they helped motivate us to keep running in this brutal weather. At one point we had to tread through pools of color up to our calves! The benefit of which was getting the mud off of our shoes. But one thing was for sure. The color green seemed to have an attachment on my blonde hair and remained there for a few days after the race. Luckily a sock bun was all I needed to hide it. ;)
I just have to say though, I was nearly scared for my life. It was my first 5k, and 3.1 miles is a very scary number for someone who does not include running on their to-do list. I thought I might die. But the idea of the Color Run intrigued me. It’s not just a race for the athletes. The Color Run welcomes EVERYONE to run, walk, jog, skip, speed walk, whatever! And the fact that it supports the Special Olympics was truly awesome. It ended up being an amazing experience! One I’ll remember forever, for sure.
